The Elder Scrolls Online: Flames of Ambition review friv game - It's going to be a hot year
Once again the clouds are gathering over Tamriel. The fertile valleys of Deshaan smell of cinders and volcanic gases, and Enric's inn in the port city of Anville is reporting suspicious activity near the abandoned estate of Emperor Durkorah. We share our impressions of Flames of Ambition - an add-on for The Elder Scrolls Online, which is a year-long adventure.
For the release of Blackwood from an online game developer Friv2Online - the new chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online, ZeniMax has traditionally prepared an introductory DLC consisting of two previously unavailable dungeons. Kajit, whose fur had never adapted to the cold, harsh conditions of Skyrim's environment, was overjoyed to depart on a spring expedition with his companions. All the more so because our path lay to the south of Morrowind, where the picturesque region of Deshaan stretched out on a rocky plain.
Rumor has it that the already few inhabitants of one of the modest villages in the Smelling Loam have begun to disappear without a trace. The locals believe their disappearance has something to do with a strange procession that a few days earlier had traveled with torches to an abandoned mine nearby. We were told that the dark elf Dratas had gone there shortly before our arrival, convinced that his uncle and father had been kidnapped and dragged into the mine by sectarians.
According to the records, the mine was abandoned after miners from the West Narsis Mining Company mutinied because of strange voices and singing coming from beneath the rock. The deeper the workers dug, the louder the "evil muttering" became, according to their testimony.
Many went insane and became completely out of control. Eventually the mine had to be shut down. The locals claimed it was cursed and warned us against the danger, but we were determined to explore the mine. An old Dunmer had mentioned a suspicious dremora that had accompanied young Dratas.
The new dungeon "Cauldron" really begins as a spacious mine, where once there was serious ore mining activity. Judging by the abandoned equipment, it was abandoned in a hurry, and the old remains we found in the workers' tents testify to the fate of the poor souls who didn't have time or for some reason couldn't get out.
At the entrance we meet Dratas and our old acquaintance Lirant, a renegade dremora who sometimes, but only when she is in the mood, still allows the wretched mortals to hang around and even participate in her affairs. Lirant will be one of the main characters in the upcoming Blackwood expansion.
The dremora made a pact with Dratas that she would help the elf find his family in the mine, and in return he would open for her a chest sealed with a Daedra charm. According to Lirant, the cultists of Merunes Dagon, whom she has been diligently destroying since our last meeting, are also interested in the contents of the chest, and in order to get to it, they capture locals and force them to work at the mine.
In the course of the rescue operation, players will encounter the ogrym guardian Porphyry the Vicious and the overseer Viccia, defeat an iron atronach by descending into the lava bowels of a natural cavern, and rescue Lyrant, trapped in a Daedra energy extraction device, using her cold fire to destroy active power modules.
In the finale, the group will face a heated battle with Baron Zodrus in a looped, narrow arena. A special danger, in addition to numerous minions and destructive spells, will be moving walls of flame. Lyrant will not sit on the sidelines, but will help the heroes by granting one of them a power that multiplies the damage for a while.
In "Cauldron" you can get three new sets of clothes:
In the veteran mode of The Cauldron, players will be able to get the Baron Zodrus Helmet, part of a monster set that increases the hero's basic stats. The set of two items will allow owners to accumulate superpower points faster, by casting status effects on enemies.
In addition, once inside the dungeon, all players receive a collectible style for two-handed hammers - "Fire-hardened Sledgehammer", and as a reward for passing the "Cauldron" on the veteran level of difficulty - a creepy shell "Viscerent Dagon".
After saying goodbye to Dratas (Lirant did not), we left for the Gold Coast. After gathering rumors at Enric Latera's tavern and enjoying the local treats, which consisted mostly of fresh seafood, we headed straight to the estate that once belonged to Durkorah the Black Serpent, the founding emperor of the Long House dynasty.
As we explored the neighborhood of the seemingly abandoned but very well-preserved estate, we unexpectedly met the wood elf Eveli Sharp Arrow, a spirited adventurer whom we had the pleasure of meeting earlier when we visited Orsinium at the invitation of Alga's blacksmith mother.
Eveli, who was not too sociable and naive, willingly told us that under the mansion of Durkorah there was a library with the rarest books, which the Emperor had brought to the specially built villa from all over Tamriel. And a certain Farrul Lupus from Riften, having learned about Eveli's talents, hired the girl to find a particularly valuable copy.
Inspired by the prospect of exploring the Long House's underground vault, filled with artifacts and ancient writings, and embarrassed by the unexpected interest in her person, Eveli was eager to do the job, and we caught her just as she was looking for a loophole to get into the manor.
As we soon found out, the dungeon of the Black Serpent's Villa was not empty. Outside, we encountered goblins and minotaurs, who had apparently settled in the area surrounding the villa for a long time. Once inside, we encountered True Oath mercenaries intent on burning the library to the ground. Their grim leader was also after the book, and there was no way we were going to let these determined pyromancers get their hands on it.
During the expedition, players will fight the goblin leader Kinras Iron Eye, a huge minotaur that summons fire totems, defeat Captain Gemina, and face off in a final battle with the Flame Lord Enkratis, who looks remotely like the warlocks from the Mortal Kombat universe.
The final battle will take place in two stages - first in a spacious front garden near the secret underground library, where the group will get acquainted with the basic mechanics of combat, then inside, where players will have to escape from a devastating fire whirlwind in a huge sewer tank.
In addition, there are several hidden bosses in the dungeon. To get to them, the group members will have to find and solve puzzles together, and by enlisting the powers of incarnations, all players will receive powerful passive bonuses and the ability to briefly turn into an ice warrior capable of freezing surrounding enemies.
The following sets can be found in Black Serpent Villa:
The "Beast of Enkratis" helmet, which drops when passing the villa in veteran mode, adds magic points to the wearer. The wearer of the full monster set will exude an aura spreading to 11 members of his group when dealing fire damage to enemies. The aura will reduce incoming fire damage by 5% and increase outgoing fire damage by 5%.
For completing the villa in veteran mode, all players will receive the "Illusory Salamander Stone" as a souvenir, which can be used to summon a fire lizard like those found in the new dungeons for a short period of time.
The "Fire of Ambition" add-on appeared in the Crown Store on PC and Mac on March 8, became available to owners of copies of The Elder Scrolls Online for Xbox and PlayStation on March 16, and was included in the ESO Plus subscription. We can already say with certainty that we are waiting for the hottest year-long adventure in the history of TESO, and the company for it, it seems, has picked up the right thing.
